Cyber's Offspring: AI and the Missing Security Mindset

Apr 26, 2023

Abstract

As cyber's offspring, AI and its advanced technology brethren inherit the insecurity of the cyberspace substrate underlying digitized societies. Numerous articles have heralded the possibilities for hacking of ML models, data sets, and every aspect of the AI development chain in a breathless urgent tone suggesting these threats are surprising. In reality, whatever is left insecure in the cyber infrastructure will offer malicious avenues into the AI/ML development cycle and any subsequent tools, models, or databases resting on that firmament. This talk will review the challenges of secure AI/ML development given its cyber genealogy and suggest some potential systemic solutions.
