Biography
Prof. Shu Hu is an Assistant Professor in the School of Applied and Creative Computing and the Director of the Purdue Machine Learning and Media Forensics (M2) Lab at Purdue University, USA.
Before joining Purdue, he served as an Assistant Professor at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (2023–2024). From 2022 to 2023, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Heinz College of Carnegie Mellon University. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in 2022, after spending his first two Ph.D. years at the University at Albany (SUNY). He also holds a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University at Albany (2020), a Master of Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (2016), and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Information Engineering from the North China Institute of Science and Technology (2013). Additionally, he was a visiting student at the University of South Australia from 2014 to 2015.
Prof. Hu is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot Award (2024), the National Science Foundation CRII Award (2024), the Machine Intelligence Research Outstanding Reviewer Award (2023), the University at Buffalo’s CSE Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award (2022), the Honorable Mention Award of the Agrusa CSE Student Innovation Competition (2021), and first place in the graduate poster competition (2020) at the SUNY Buffalo.
