The courses, which run from May until October and are one to four days in length, will be presented by Purdue’s Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS). Course topics include information security foundations, incident response, risk assessment, secure computer and network programming, information security policy, and crisis management. “Most people view information security as a problem that only large companies with billions of dollars at stake need to worry about,” said Matt Rose, an instructional designer at CERIAS. “What they don’t realize is that the need for information security exists at all levels. Small businesses, home offices, health care organizations, and even schools need to be concerned about the security of their information and their computer systems and the safety of their personnel.”

The courses are designed for business and industry management and executives, information technology staff, end users, home users, government users, K-12 administrators, technology coordinators, teachers and parents.

CERIAS is a multidisciplinary research and education center in areas of information security. The center has leading programs in various levels of security and assurance education, including graduate, undergraduate, K-12 and professional development. Purdue University and CERIAS have program offerings at the master’s and bachelor’s degree levels. CERIAS also offers certification programs, workshops and seminars on a variety of topics.
