Through this program, the Center also stays up-to-date on current commercial technology and is able to pass this expertise on to our students. The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is a research, development, and acquisition agency within the Department of Defense. The workforce includes government civilians, military service members, and contractor personnel in multiple locations across the United States. As MDA develops, tests, and fields an integrated Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), it works closely with the Combatant Commanders (e.g. Pacific Command, Northern Command, etc.) who will rely on the system to protect the United States, including forward deployed forces and U.S. friends and allies from hostile ballistic missile attack. MDA works with the Combatant Commanders to ensure that we develop a robust BMDS technology and development program to address the challenges of an evolving threat. MDA is also steadily increasing our international cooperation by supporting mutual security interests in missile defense.

The company developed and operates the Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures (cve.mitre.org) public website that provides unique names for security vulnerabilities. CVE is used by more than 150 security products from 100 vendors. MITRE defined the Open Vulnerability Assessment Language (oval.mitre.org) that is being used to enable commercial and open source security products to adopt common tests for checking systems for security configuration and vulnerabilities. This XML-based language will eventually enable these products to tie together all aspects of enterprise security management. MITRE is headquartered in Bedford MA, with principal sites in McLean VA, Colorado Springs, and St Louis and 30 other domestic and overseas sites.
